Some things only get hotter with time. In January 2025, after more than three decades building one of the most feared names in hot sauce, founder David Ashley passed the torch to his son, Andrew Ashley, who steps in as CEO of Ashley Food Company. The company stays exactly what it has always been: family-owned, family-run, and dead serious about heat.
From one kitchen to the world's hottest
The story started small. David Ashley began experimenting with bold sauce recipes in 1985, and by 1991 the Ashley Food Company was officially born. What began as a hobby grew into a fiery empire built on one idea — push heat further than anyone else dares.
In 1998, Mad Dog Inferno was crowned the world's hottest sauce in a scientific comparison of more than 700 contenders. From there the legend only grew: Original Mad Dog 357 and Gold Edition were chosen for five seasons of Hot Ones, the bottles turned up in episodes of Friends, and rock royalty came calling — collaborations with Joe Perry of Aerosmith and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead fused real heat with real attitude.
Passing the torch
"I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the past 34 years," said David Ashley. "From our first batch of sauce to creating some of the world's hottest, it has been an incredible journey. I am confident that Andrew will continue to drive our mission forward, bringing new energy and ideas to the table. The future of Ashley Food Company is in good hands."
Where we go next
Andrew Ashley has spent years inside the business, and he's taking the brand toward the people who live the way Mad Dog tastes — flat out. His vision points Mad Dog 357 squarely at mountain bikers, extreme-sports athletes, and adrenaline seekers.
"Our products have always been about intensity and passion," said Andrew. "Mountain bikers, rock climbers, and extreme sports athletes embody the same daring spirit as Mad Dog 357. By connecting with these communities, we're creating a synergy between the fiery heat of our sauces and the adrenaline-fueled lives they lead."
That direction is already in motion through Mad Dog 357 Racing, backing riders who push limits in downhill mountain biking and beyond.
"I am excited and honored to lead Ashley Food Company into its next chapter," Andrew added. "We have a strong foundation built on quality, innovation, and a deep love for what we do. I look forward to continuing our tradition of excellence while exploring new opportunities to connect with people who, like us, love to live on the edge."
