Really good but too vinegary
It doesn't disappoint.
Flavor to me:
It has a sort of cinnamon front, followed by a sweet chili sauce kind of tang, but that quickly gets replaced with a nose-running, drooling kind of spice. Some people have commented the sauces are bitter but I never thought so. That's a flavor profile I would say comes with many of the other extract based sauces, but not this one in particular.
I first tried this sauce at the hot sauce bar at a Firehouse Subs in Springfield, Missouri. I put it on an Italian Sub. I fell in love with the flavor and heat instantly. I've tried a lot of the "super hot" sauces, extracts, fresh and dried chiles from just about every other brand. I've had a lot that were good, but none this flavorful on their own. I had to buy the original Mad Dog 357, plus the silver and gold editions, when I was at Jungle Jim's in Cincinnati. They are all good. Yeah, they hurt, but in small doses they can be managed as a daily driver hot sauce. If you can't handle it at first, give it little a while. You will acclimate. After that, all other sauces will just reveal themselves for what they truly are, mostly vinegar. I still love those sauces too, but this is what I was personally searching for.
I keep a variety of hot sauces at the ready, but I keep only one bottle for dotting my taco shells and dobbing the salsa. I don't like the "pain and suffering" no-taste evil sauces. Sorry Dave....The Mad Dog 357 is that one bottle in the fridge that is just right for me, hitting hard but asking for forgiveness in taste. I have to add a plastic circle cap to keep it from globing out.
